Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 Performance

The AP1800M brings Wi-Fi 6 technology to outdoor deployments that previously relied on older 802.11ac hardware. The MT7621AT + MT7975 + MT7905 chipset with 256MB DDR3 RAM and dual-core processing delivers 1201Mbps on the 5GHz band and 574Mbps on 2.4GHz — combined 1800Mbps throughput with the efficiency improvements that define Wi-Fi 6.

OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) splits each channel into smaller sub-channels, allowing the AP to serve multiple clients simultaneously rather than sequentially — the key improvement for outdoor deployments where 50–150 devices connect concurrently. MU-MIMO handles parallel spatial streams, and BSS Coloring reduces interference in environments where multiple APs operate in proximity. 1024-QAM increases data density per transmission, delivering higher effective throughput at close to medium range.

For deployments that need higher throughput or more antennas, the APM5-AX3000 offers AX3000 speeds across six 7dBi antennas with up to 500m coverage.

Four-Antenna Long-Range Design

Four 7dBi external omnidirectional antennas provide 360° coverage and deliver signal up to 500 metres under clear line-of-sight conditions. Integrated high-power amplifiers extend signal strength beyond standard consumer-grade APs, while the four-antenna layout ensures even coverage without the dead spots common in lower-antenna-count designs.

In residential and hospitality outdoor deployments — resort pools, garden areas, outdoor dining terraces — the 300–400m effective range in typical environments covers the entire venue from a single pole-mounted unit. Rural and community Wi-Fi operators can position units to achieve overlapping coverage across larger areas in Mesh mode.

IP67 Outdoor Enclosure with 4kV Lightning Protection

The AP1800M is engineered for permanent outdoor installation, not occasional exposure. IP67 certification means the enclosure is completely sealed against dust ingress and can withstand temporary water immersion — exceeding the IP65 standard used by many entry-level outdoor APs. Rain, coastal humidity, poolside splash, and sustained outdoor exposure do not penetrate the sealed housing.

The 4kV lightning protection on the Ethernet port guards against surge events from nearby strikes — a common cause of outdoor AP failure on exposed poles and rooftop mounts. UV-resistant ABS plastic prevents the yellowing and brittleness that shortens the life of cheaper outdoor enclosures in tropical and high-UV environments.

The -30°C to +70°C operating temperature range covers deployment zones from northern European winters to Middle Eastern summers, making the AP1800M a single SKU for global outdoor projects.

Five Flexible Working Modes

A single AP1800M adapts to different network topologies without requiring additional hardware:

  • Router mode — connect to a modem or gateway for a complete wireless network with built-in DHCP
  • AP mode — convert a wired Ethernet connection into Wi-Fi coverage, the standard hotel and campus deployment model
  • Repeater mode — extend an existing Wi-Fi network wirelessly, useful where running Ethernet cable to a distant outdoor location is impractical
  • WISP mode — connect to an upstream ISP wireless signal and re-share as a new Wi-Fi network, suitable for last-kilometre distribution
  • Mesh mode — combine multiple AP1800M units into a seamless roaming network, allowing users to move freely across a large outdoor area without SSID switching

Mode selection is handled from the browser-based web GUI (192.168.188.1) — no command-line access required for initial setup.

Single-Cable PoE Installation

The AP1800M accepts 48V active or passive PoE, delivering both power and Gigabit data over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable up to 100 metres from the PoE switch or injector. For pole installations, this means a single conduit run — no separate mains cable, no junction box at the pole top. The waterproof Ethernet gland seals the cable entry point against moisture ingress.

A PoE adapter is included in the standard package for deployments without a PoE switch, supporting quick single-unit setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the outdoor coverage range of the AP1800M?
The AP1800M uses four external 7dBi omnidirectional antennas with integrated high-power amplifiers to deliver up to 500 metres of outdoor coverage under clear line-of-sight conditions. In typical deployments with some obstructions — trees, fencing, low walls — the effective range is 300–400 metres. Actual coverage depends on obstacles, RF environment, and client device capability.
How many devices can the AP1800M support simultaneously?
The AP1800M supports 150+ concurrent connected devices using dual-band MU-MIMO and OFDMA across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This makes it well suited for parks, resort pool areas, outdoor commercial venues, and rural community Wi-Fi where many users connect at once.
What working modes does the AP1800M support?
The AP1800M supports five switchable working modes: Router mode (connect to modem for full wireless network), AP mode (transform wired backhaul to wireless), Repeater mode (extend an existing Wi-Fi network wirelessly), WISP mode (connect to ISP wirelessly and share Wi-Fi), and Mesh mode (build a seamless whole-area mesh network with multiple units). Mode switching is done from the web GUI at 192.168.188.1.
What power options does the AP1800M support?
The AP1800M is powered via its Gigabit RJ45 port using 48V active or passive PoE, allowing a single Cat5e or better cable to carry both power and data up to 100 metres from the PoE injector or switch. A PoE adapter is included in the package. This simplifies pole and rooftop installations where running mains power separately is impractical.
How does the AP1800M handle harsh outdoor environments?
The AP1800M is built for permanent outdoor exposure — IP67 sealing protects against full dust ingress and water immersion, 4kV lightning protection guards the Ethernet port against surge events, UV-resistant ABS housing prevents yellowing and cracking from prolonged sun exposure, and the -30°C to +70°C operating range covers deployments from cold northern climates to hot tropical regions.
Is OEM/ODM customization available for this product?
Yes. MossLink offers full OEM and ODM services for the AP1800M, including custom firmware defaults, enclosure branding and silkscreen, antenna configuration, and private-label packaging. Minimum order quantities apply. Contact us to discuss your project requirements.
